About
Eddy Hackett is a creative producer, percussionist and educator based in London. Born in Edinburgh, Eddy gained his BMus at the Royal Academy of Music, MMus at the Manhattan School of Music and is currently a PhD researcher at the University of Westminster’s CREAM Institute. He was awarded numerous scholarships during his studies, including a MBF Education Award, Countess of Munster Award and the New York Philharmonic Stamas Fund Award. As a student, Eddy was a member of the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester, European Union Youth Orchestra and was the percussionist for the 2008 Southbank Sinfonia season.
The Lost Estate
In 2017, Eddy co-founded and became a director of The Lost Estate, a production company that creates immersive ‘worlds’ which reimagine iconic classical arts masterpieces through fusing live performance, fine dining and craft mixology into extraordinary and memorable nights out. Prior to this, he was Chairman of the Young Advisors Committee at English National Opera, advising the board on initiatives to make the company more relevant to the under-30 demographic.
Percussionist
Eddy has worked with over 30 leading symphony orchestras and opera houses, including the Royal Opera House, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and Royal Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. He has performed at major international festivals such as the BBC Proms and Edinburgh International Festival, given numerous TV, radio, cinema and live streaming broadcasts and toured to the USA, Europe, Far East, and South East Asia.
He has performed chamber music at the Wigmore Hall, Tonhalle Zurich and Universities of Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen, where he has collaborated with DG recording artist Kian Soltani, Peter Eotvos and London Percussion, the percussion quartet he founded.
In 2018, Eddy was Artist in Residence at the University of St Andrews New Music Week and reached the 2004 percussion finals of the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition.
Educator
Eddy has given over 20 performance masterclasses and guest lectures (primarily on the subject of creative enterprise) at higher education institutions throughout the UK, Europe and Far East including the Royal Academy of Music, Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Trinity Laban, Leeds College of Music, Goldsmiths University, Tokushima Bunri University in Japan.
Passionate about music outreach projects, he has collaborated on projects with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Opera House, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo Bunka Kaikan and TAK Theatre Liechtenstein. Eddy has held positions as Head of Percussion at the Qatar Music Academy and Junior Trinity Laban.
